"To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return."
— Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un
What to Do First
When a Muslim passes away, it is a communal obligation (Fard Kifayah) to prepare them for burial as quickly as possible. Please take the following steps immediately:
- Contact the Imam: Call immediately so the community can begin making arrangements for washing and prayer.
- Close the Eyes: Gently close the eyes of the deceased and make a simple du'a for them.
- Cover the Body: Cover the deceased with a clean sheet.
- Hospital Release: If passing occurred at a hospital, begin the paperwork to release the body for Islamic burial.
